Do You Have Older Brothers? If Yes, Then It's Likely You Are GAY

A man's sexual orientation appears to be determined in the womb, a new study suggests. The study shown that the more older brothers a man has, the more likely he is to be gay. But it has not been clear if this is a prenatal effect or a psychosocial effect, related to growing up with older male siblings.

Some 944 gay and straight men, including several who were raised with adopted, half- or step-siblings or were themselves adopted were interviewed by Dr. Anthony F. Bogaert and his colleagues of Brock University in St. Catherines, Ontorio, Canada.

It's Biological, Not Upbringing

Dr. Bogaert reasoned that if the relationship between having older male siblings and homosexuality was due to family environment or child-rearing practices, it would be seen whether or not a man's older brothers were biological or adopted.

He also suggest that the link between having older brothers and homosexuality was present only if the siblings were biologically related as this relationship was seen between biological brothers who were not raised together but the amount of time that a man was reared with older brothers had no association with sexual orientation.

This simply meant that although you are the only child of your adopted parents, you still genetically-likely to be somewhat of a gay if you have older biological brothers.

What Really Happened in The Womb?

Dr. Bogaert explains that a woman's body may see a male fetus as "foreign" and her immune response to subsequent male fetuses may grow progressively stronger.- I'm no doctor, but if a woman's immune system rejects male fetus, will that mean that she will not be able to bear male child?

Anyway, Dr. Bogaert suggested, "If this immune theory were correct, then the link between the mother's immune reaction and the child's future sexual orientation would probably be some effect of maternal anti-male antibodies on the sexual differentiation of the brain." He also claimed that other research also support the sexual orientation-maternal immune response link.

My Doubts, Your Conclusion

Now, I would like to assume that the study was done in North America and the correspondence are mainly caucasian and only a very small percentage of other races (African Americans, Asians, Hispanics) were interviewed.

So my doubts are,

  • I have lots of uncle (born to the same mother) but none of them were gay.
  • A friend of mine is gay but he's the eldest of 5 boys.
  • Another friend, he's gay too but he's the only son.
  • Another friend, he's gay and the only son with 4 elder sisters.
  • How about bisexual?

It looks like family up bringing and imported cultural influence are the only cause for one to be gay. Or perhaps our curiosity is another one factor that we should look into? Those are my doubts, you make your own conclusions.
